Does the Apple Watch Ever Go on Sale? What the Price Record Shows (2026)

Bottom line: Yes, but shallowly and unpredictably, and Black Friday is rarely the low. Apple does not discount its own watches, so every price cut you see is a retailer decision, which is why they scatter across the calendar instead of clustering in November. Here is the number that matters this year: we recorded the Series 11 at $299 in July and it is $399 on 28 October 2026. A November banner measured against $399 can advertise a large percentage and still leave you paying more than July.

Why Apple Watch Discounts Behave Differently

The mechanism explains the pattern, so it is worth getting straight before looking at any individual deal.

Apple sells at full price through its own channels and essentially never runs a Black Friday sale on hardware. What it does instead is gift-card promotions, which are not price cuts. Every genuine discount on an Apple Watch comes from a retailer deciding to take less margin, usually to pull traffic.

That has two consequences. First, the discounts are shallower than the ones you see on Garmin or Therabody, because the retailer is absorbing them rather than the manufacturer funding them. Second, they appear whenever a retailer wants traffic, which is as likely to be a random Tuesday or the week after Thanksgiving as the day itself.

So the usual advice to wait for Black Friday is close to arbitrary here. It works for brands that run coordinated manufacturer-funded sales, and Apple is not one of them.

What We Recorded

WhenSeries 11 priceNote
July 2026$299Ahead of Prime Day
28 October 2026$399Four weeks before Black Friday
Change+$100A third higher, no sale involved

Two readings taken on the same listing, three months apart. We are not claiming anyone manipulated anything, and ordinary causes explain price movement: inventory, demand, and third-party sellers rotating through the buy box. The effect on a shopper is the same whatever the cause.

Work the arithmetic forward. If a retailer advertises 20 percent off the Series 11 in November, that is roughly $319 against today’s $399. It would be a real discount against the current price and still $20 more than the thing cost in July, with no sale attached. That is the gap between a percentage and a price.

The Pattern Across Previous Years

Three things recur, and they argue against treating November as the moment.

The discounts are modest. Apple Watch cuts tend to land in the range where you save tens of dollars rather than hundreds, which is a different category from the 35 to 50 percent that Therabody runs or the 25 to 50 percent that Garmin runs. Our Black Friday guide sets out which brands behave which way.

They are frequently beaten after Black Friday. Retailer-driven pricing does not stop on the Monday. Coverage in the weeks following has repeatedly found Apple Watch prices at or below their November levels, which is the opposite of how the countdown marketing frames it.

Prime Day often does better. The July event is when Amazon has historically cut across the Apple Watch range, which is exactly what our $299 July reading reflects. Our Prime Day versus Black Friday breakdown goes category by category, and Apple is the clearest case of the summer event winning.

Put together: the annual low for an Apple Watch is more likely to fall in July, or in a post-launch clearance, than on the fourth Friday in November.

Where the Real Savings Are

If you want an Apple Watch cheaply, the discount calendar is the wrong lever. Three others work better.

Buy the previous generation at launch. Prior-generation models often see their deepest cuts when a new one is announced in September, sometimes below the following November price. That is the most reliable Apple Watch saving there is, and it has nothing to do with Black Friday.

Buy the SE instead of the flagship. The gap between the SE and the Series 11 is largely display technology, the always-on screen, and sensors most people never use. For fitness tracking specifically the difference is small, and our Apple Watch review goes through which features genuinely matter.

Consider whether you need an Apple Watch at all. If the use case is training rather than notifications, a dedicated running watch does more for less. Our Apple Watch versus Fitbit comparison and recovery tracker roundup cover the alternatives honestly, including where Apple wins.

What You Are Actually Buying

Worth grounding the purchase, since a sale price is only a good price if the thing is right for you.

As a smartwatch the Apple Watch is the strongest product in the category for anyone on an iPhone, and nothing here disputes that. As a training device it has the same limitation as everything else worn on the wrist: optical heart rate degrades as intensity rises and the sensor shifts against moving skin. That is a wrist problem rather than a price problem, and it applies equally to a $399 Apple Watch and a $700 flagship.

Validation research is consistent on the shape of it. Consumer wearables detect sleep versus wake well, above 95 percent sensitivity, while agreement on individual sleep stages is considerably weaker. Energy expenditure is the weakest output of all, and no mainstream device has met researchers’ accuracy thresholds for it. Our guide to the validation research goes study by study.

Practical version: read weekly trends rather than nightly verdicts, and if you train by heart rate zones, pair it with a chest strap. That upgrade costs about a quarter of the watch and fixes more.

How We Evaluate

We do not test products hands-on and we will not imply we do. The two Series 11 prices in this article are readings we took on the seller’s own Amazon listing, at $299 in July 2026 and $399 on 28 October 2026, both recorded on this site on those dates. These are dated spot checks rather than continuous tracking, and we have not reconstructed what the watch cost on days we did not check. The description of Apple’s pricing behaviour reflects its published approach of running gift-card promotions rather than hardware discounts. Projected November prices are arithmetic applied to today’s figure and labelled as estimates, not forecasts. Accuracy claims come from published validation research, cited in the linked guide.

So Should You Wait?

No, if you see a price you are happy with. Apple Watch pricing is retailer-driven and scattered, so a good price today is not obviously worse than a good price in four weeks. Buy it and stop watching.

Write today’s number down either way. This is the whole trick and it costs nothing. A figure you recorded in October cannot be revised. When the banner appears, compare against your note rather than the struck-through price beside it, and ignore the percentage entirely.

Check the price history before accepting any claim. Amazon shows up to 365 days of pricing on a product page. If the watch sat below the sale price earlier in the year, the discount is cosmetic. Our six-week price tracking sets out the method on other products.

Wait, if you want a different brand. Therabody, compression boots and walking pads all discount genuinely and deeply in November, unlike Apple. Our Garmin timing guide and Oura discount history cover two more brands where the calendar does matter.

FAQ

Does Apple ever discount the Apple Watch directly?
Essentially no. Apple sells at full price through its own channels and runs gift-card promotions rather than price cuts. Every genuine discount you see comes from a retailer choosing to take less margin.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy an Apple Watch?
Usually not. Because the discounts are retailer-driven they scatter across the calendar, they tend to be modest, and they are frequently matched or beaten in the weeks after Black Friday or at Prime Day in July.

How much do Apple Watches drop on Black Friday?
Historically in the shallow range, tens of dollars rather than the 35 to 50 percent that brands like Therabody run. Judge any claim by the final price rather than the percentage, because the percentage is calculated against whatever the current price happens to be.

Why did the Apple Watch price go up before Black Friday?
We recorded the Series 11 at $299 in July and $399 on 28 October 2026. We cannot say why, and inventory, demand and seller rotation all move prices for ordinary reasons. The practical effect is that November discounts will be measured against the higher figure.

What is the cheapest way to get an Apple Watch?
Buy the previous generation when a new model is announced in September, when prior-gen clearance is often deeper than the following November, or buy the SE, whose differences from the flagship matter less for fitness tracking than for everything else.
